Exquisitely Hand Carved Vintage Balinese NEI (Dutch East Indies or Netherland East Indies) Wood Carving/Sculpture. This wood carving is in great vintage condition.This Sculpture is carved out of the most beautiful piece of wood. NEI stands for Netherland East Indies, which was a dutch colony that became modern Indonesian following World War ll. This Balinese sculpture is of a graceful Indonesian person holding a lotus flower in one hand while the other hand has 2 fingers raised. The detail is absolutely exquisite with amazing detail from front to back. The lady is wearing a a full length gown and headpiece with traditional Bali design. the bottom of the statue is signed " No. 40 ". This item was purchased at auction. I was told that the previous owner bought it through her travels though Indonesia. There are no visible signs of wear, scratches or cracks in the wood. An amazing must have piece for any collector. The detail in this sculpture is amazing beautiful on all sides including the front, side and even back! A fantastic wood carving for any art lover and perfect for any vintage Balinese sculpture collector. This one is a must-have!

 

*This is thought to be a Pre War 1930-1940 sculpture made by a master carver  

**This item is extremely rare and I had help appraising it by a European Bali Art dealer who said he would retail it at over $4,000.
